NCMM and IGA Sign Landmark Memorandum to Develop Nigeria’s Cultural Heritage Trail
The National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) is Nigeria’s regulatory body for heritage management, overseeing the protection and promotion of cultural assets nationwide Has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IGA Nigeria Limited to establish a Cultural Heritage Trail Framework across Nigeria. This landmark agreement underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding and celebrating the nation’s diverse cultural heritage through a structured and sustainable approach.
The MoU formalizes the collaboration between NCMM and IGA, ensuring the integration of IGA’s Stakeholder Call to Action framework in the review and update of Nigeria’s National Tentative List. This will leverage cultural heritage trails as a vital tool for site identification and preservation.
The initial rollout will focus on the Southwestern states Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo where IGA has existing consultancy engagements. Lagos and Osun will serve as pilot locations before broader national implementation.
By signing this MoU, NCMM reaffirms its dedication to expert-driven strategies for heritage conservation and sustainable tourism development, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a custodian of its cultural legacy.
